About Jill Cameron
Artist with Studio/Gallery
At Cooks Beach
I was about 8 when I first started painting pictures of Hahei Beach and Cathedral Cove. At the age of 18 I sailed from New Zealand finally settling in Southern California. It is here that my art career started. I painted desert scenes which I sold from an Indian Trading Post and Joshua Tree National Park. For a number of years I operated a studio, teaching pottery and watercolour painting along with trying my hand at sculpture.
In 1983, my life took a different turn and I found myself owning and operating, an F.B.O., a fully operational airport. It was not until 1998 that I completed the sale of it and returned to my native New Zealand. My first studio/gallery was in Hahei until I recently moved to my current location in Cooks Beach.
I paint mostly landscapes using three mediums, watercolour, ink and acrylics. Even though I have been painting for over fifty years I still get excited with the creativity which happens each time I start a painting, mostly coming out of the mistakes I make, the "art" is trying to decide which of the mistakes to keep.
I welcome visitors to my studio/gallery. See the contact page for location and opening hours to see my art in Cooks Beach.
